Director of Operations, South Florida
Jason McDonald
Photography has been part of my life for more than 35 years. I started with film photography in the late 1980s, and even after all these years, I still get excited about capturing a moment that means something to someone.
Most of my work has centered around schools, preschools, youth sports leagues, and the communities around them. For me, picture day has never been just about moving people in front of a camera. I enjoy getting to know the schools and organizations we work with, learning what makes each community different, talking with coaches, directors, parents, and kids, and hearing the stories that come with them.
That connection matters to me. Whether I’m photographing a child on school picture day, a young athlete with their team, or working with a school halfway around the world, I want people to feel comfortable, respected, and genuinely seen.
Over the years, photography has taken me across the United States and around the world, including regular time in Kenya working with schools and communities there. Wherever I am, one of the things I value most is learning from the people I meet — their families, their traditions, their experiences, and the things that matter to them. Those relationships are a big part of what has kept me passionate about this work for so many years.
One of my favorite moments still comes at the end: when someone sees the finished photograph and you catch that smile, that look in their eyes, or sometimes even a tear. That’s when I know we captured a moment that may mean even more to them years from now.
Outside of photography, I love cooking, traveling, hiking, camping, and finding a quiet park where I can slow down and enjoy the day.
After more than three decades behind a camera, I still love the people, the energy of picture day, the stories, and the feeling that comes from creating something meaningful.
